Auberge St. Gabriel Wedding | Canadian Destination Wedding

This is just a tiny preview of from Christie & Michael's destination Canadian Wedding at L'Auberge St. Gabriel. Their wedding celebration here in the old port of Montreal began with a gorgeous view of the city through the windows of their St. James Hotel penthouse suite. Old Montreal is always a win-win with out of town guests, since every room is one of a kind, and the bar service is also top notch. Images from this wedding remind of me of Time Life portraits, classic black and white, portraits of strong, elegant, and smart women completely in charge and running the show that day ~the girls at this event got style! For this destination wedding L'auberge saint Gabriel was a perfect pick a venue for Christie & Michael, since everything is located so close to Grenier hall, Truteau hall, and other hotels and other their family and friends were staying at.

Well known for having one of the best kitchens in Quebec:

The Auberge has a very warm, intimate vibe, perfect for guests at a wedding venue and a place for couples to party. Christie and Michael did plenty of that, and were the first people on dance floor to properly kick off this nearly all night party. Almost the entire floor was up and didn’t stop moving for hours. This wasn’t a chill cocktail party, this Canadian destination wedding was definitely one of the best events I was apart of this year.

Just a few words about the image collection:

A photographer can very much affect the vibe and feel of a room depending on how he/she walks, talks, directs, or stays a fly on the wall. My couples want and hope to have beautiful photos of themselves and their families but don’t want to turn their wedding day into a big photoshoot. This is the space where I really love to be in - 90% documentary style with very little direction from me, and only when needed. I see things in very classic ways, I can’t help it, I’ve seen too much gorgeous cinema and references to the old days and standards of what beauty is, and grace, and light, and composition. I try and capture my images in the most simple frame, and that might be perhaps a little old fashioned, but tell me a black and white portrait, square, white/black background, looking directly in the camera isn’t a beautiful thing. Try to say that. It’s impossible, but it’s just the best.

A few select wedding portraits were featured over on the Carrots & Cake blog. Check that here.  Check out the L’Auberge website here for more info.
